This was released today on KSDK TV here in St.Louis:

KSDK -- Another big act is joining the fanfare surrounding the All-Star Game.

Major League Baseball announced today that Elvis Costello will join Sheryl Crow as her special guest at the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Charity Concert July 11. The show will be under the Gateway Arch at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. The concert is free to fans.

"Having long cherished my Dad's catcher's mitt from his time with the Bidston Indians in the local, post-war, Merseyside amateur leagues, inspired by visiting USAAF baseball enthusiasts, I'm delighted to take part in this event," said Costello in a news release. "Having given up my chance to play sports for a life in music, I cannot think of anything better than sitting in with Sheryl and her band for a few surprise numbers and a rocking good time in St. Louis."

The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11. Prior to the concert, the Cardinals-Cubs game will be aired live at the concert location for fans to view, beginning at 3:00 p.m. CT. All visitors will be screened at security checkpoints before entering.

By Annie Zaleski in NewsThursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 3:22PMI just got off the phone with a spokesman for Major League Baseball, and he clarified that Elvis Costello is not opening for Sheryl Crow next Saturday, July 11, nor is he doing an entirely separate set of his own material. He'll come out during the show and join her for some songs. In other words, he'll be a special guest. The show, which takes place under the Arch, is still starting at 8 p.m.

I couldn't tell if you must have a MLB.TV subscription or not.
The clip did say "free concert". Since the goal is to raise awareness and funds for "Stand Up To Cancer", it wouldn't be too smart to restrict access.

Elvis Costello, the original first rocker of all time. Wish I could be there. I don't care who the guest is, I just want to see Sheryl in that Cardinal costume. Pleeeaaase! If fits the songbird perfectly! Oh yeah and I want to hear some new tunes too. You lucky people... Whoever gets to go.

What a great line-up. ..........I always confuse Elvis C. with the REAL Elvis...Mr. Presley...but I do know Costello puts on a great, professional show. He's a serious guy with a wonderful family (and wife!). I wish I could make it.

Hey, that's great news.
I agree, WildBill, about the breadth of his style.
After the show in Nashville he autographed a personalized (ELVIS) motorcycle tag for me. I was star struck and totally forgot to tell him that Jimbo said "Hi".
Didn't an earlier post say that it would be streamed on the MLB site?

Bravo Bravo!!!! Spectacular choice. Declan MacManus a/k/a rock and roll Scrabble champion a/k/a Napoleon Dynamite a/k/a Elvis Costello is a giant. I cannot wait to see/hear the "surprise" songs! The giant knows every genre inside and out from pub rock to country and back, so it should be interesting and entertaining. I hope this is somehow on t.v.
